The Natural Kosraean Soap

Today we photographed the Kengul, scientific name "Barringtonia racemosa". Before manufactured soaps were introduced into Kosrae, locals used the fruit of the kengul as soap or laundry soap. By smashing the round seeds in a clean rag, it can help to wash away the tough stains. Today, I tried it for washing my hands, and white foam came out. My hands became soft and clean without dispersing into the environment any chemicals.
